About World University ranking systems
Ranking Web is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions, and it uses a ranking system that is based on how strongly a university is present on the web by its own web domain, sub-pages, rich files, scholarly articles, etc.
The QS World University Rankings compares universities on 8 performance indicators relating to research, teaching, employability and internationalization. Before QS Rankings adds a university, such a university must teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and conduct work in at least two of five broad faculty areas (arts and humanities; engineering and technology; social sciences and management; natural sciences; life sciences and medicine). Their ranking algorithms are based on Academic Reputation (40%), Student-to-faculty ratio (20%), Research citations per faculty member (20%), Employer reputation (10%), Proportion of international faculty (5%), and Proportion of international students (5%).
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings uses 13 performance indicators, grouped into five categories. Institutions are excluded if they do not teach at the undergraduate level, or if their research output is below a certain threshold. Their ranking algorithms are based on Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Research citations (30%), International outlook (7.5%), and Industry income (2.5%).
