The long-awaited 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition which offers awards to outstanding secondary school teachers who shape the lives of the future leaders of Nigeria has commenced in earnest. The announcement for the commencement of entries for the ninth 9th edition of the popular 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition was made by the Nigeria Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund. The Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc., Hans Essaadi, who spoke at the flag-off ceremony, said that it is a nationwide search for the best secondary school teacher. The aim is to recognize and reward exceptional educators for their relentless effort towards shaping the future of our country.
“This is the ninth edition of the competition, but unlike the previous editions where the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund was the sole sponsor, we are delighted to announce that this year, we have commenced opening up potential partnerships with firms who share in our vision and mission for the initiatives,” he said.
According to the Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc., Mrs Sade Morgan, all the secondary teachers in both public and private schools are encouraged to participate in this year’s 2023 Maltina teacher of the year competition.
Prizes to be won at the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition
- The overall winner would receive a cash prize of N6.5 million, a trophy and a capacity development training opportunity, while the winner’s school would receive either a computer laboratory or a block of classrooms.
- The first runner-up of the competition would receive N1.5 million and a trophy.
- The second runner-up would receive N1, 250,000 and a trophy.
- All state champions will be rewarded with recognition plaques and a cash prize of N500,000.

About the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition
The Maltina Teacher of the Year competition was established in 2015 and funded through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, which was set up in 1994 to facilitate an active contribution to the development of the education sector in Nigeria in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, SDG No.4.
Moreso, the Maltina Teacher of the Year which has recognised a total of 181 teachers since inception, is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in education including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS) and Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
