Aims of NYSC

The need for an orientation camp and other necessary activities during the students’ service year is due to the aim and objectives of the NYSC.

NYSC is an acronym for the National Youth Service Corps which is an agency under the federal government of Nigeria for training young Nigerian graduates at home and abroad.

This scheme works extensively towards achieving its goals and objectives so, anyone who is admitted into it must be ready to abide and join hands.

Below is an outline of the aims and objectives of the NYSC;

The NYSC Orientation Camp: An Overview

There are steps that a graduate of any Nigerian university must follow to go for service. The service lasts for 1 year and during that time, the officials expect members to give their best to serve the country.

So, after graduation, graduates proceed to be cleared in their institution by printing their result statement and paying every necessary due in the school. This is important so that the school can upload the names of such students to the senate list.

After that, the students will then proceed to register for NYSC at any of the Accredited registration centers near them. Then, they can go on, after mobilization, and prepare for camping depending on which batch their name falls in.

Once a person’s name is listed for service, you must commence every necessary preparation immediately so that your luck does not go away.

So, at the NYSC camp, students from different universities in Nigeria and abroad, from different states, tribes, and languages learn each other’s culture and relate with one day another while observing the rules and regulations that guide the camping ground.

How NYSC Camping Works

Just by its name, the NYSC orientation camp is for orienting their new members and teaching them everything they need to know about their service year and what the board and country at large expect from them.

At this camp, students do not have any say as to what kind of treatment they get from the officials; if the officials say you should run then you must run.

Usually, the people who guide and guard the students at the camping ground are military men so no external harm can happen in the camp and any internal harm to a fellow harm is treated immediately.

First, before you are too excited about going to the camp, it is most likely not a ground for extreme introverts who do not have any plans of associating with other people either as a result of discrimination due to ethnicity or anything similar. This is because the NYSC orientation camp is for social activities and you do not have a choice.

Additionally, at the camping ground, students’ welfare is taken care of by the federal government as there are people hired in the kitchen to always cook for the members. So, if you are going to camp, be rest assured of your feeding, the Federal Government will feed you well (that could be sarcastic depending on how you eat).

Having familiarized with how camping works and what it is about, this section will introduce the principles you must be ready to observe at the camping ground.

At the NYSC camp, members are expected to be from different tribes, and religions and exhibit different practices, so imagine such a place without rules, members might end up hurting one another either due to past grudges or what they were told.

So, concerning the aim of the NYSC to regulate the corporation of youths irrespective of religious and cultural differences, members must be ready to observe these principles or just forget their service as they may end up coming back home on expulsion from camp, which is a bad record to keep.

Therefore, below is an outline of the NYSC camp principles that members must abide by;

Uncultured behaviors from members will not tolerated. This does not matter where you are coming from, “the NYSC camp will humble you” so you must be ready to embrace humility not, remain at your house
Any form of indecent action should not tolerated such as unnecessary touch of the opposite gender
Members to find their better half should stay at home because, at the NYSC camp, you are not permitted to practice what your parents do in marriage
Female members must wear simple hairstylist will not disrupt them or their activities
Any documents that are not personal like the NYSC call-up letter must not be laminated
The NYSC kits must be worn only when necessary, don’t be too excited that you wear them even to sleep
Members must not lose any of their kits, caps, socks, or anyone at all

NYSC Camp Activities to Expect

At the NYSC camp, members major in different activities with their fellows following the direction of the camp officials.

However, you must know that these activities require a lot of strength and energy so if you are an “indomie kid” you might as well just stay back at home.
