Mode of Selection
The US Department of State selects registered entries through a randomized computer drawing. Meanwhile, only those who have been successfully selected will receive a Diversity Visa. Moreover, the US Department of State distributes this visa evenly among the six (6) geographical regions and no region will be given a greater percentage. Every region receives 7% of the available green cards (Diversity Visa).

Eligibility Requirements for the US Green Card Lottery
There are two major ways that you can qualify as an individual for the US green card lottery. They include:
- By Country
- By Education or Work experience

Country: The green card lottery is specifically for citizens of countries with low immigration rates into the United States. However, the countries listed above are not eligible for the US Diversity Visa. Meanwhile, there are two ways by which a person can be eligible. They include:
- Firstly, If your spouse is a native of a country with a historically low immigration rate into the United States, you can claim the country of birth of your spouse, provided the names of you and your spouse are contained in the entry. Also, both you and your spouse must enter the United States at the same time.
- Secondly, if you are not a native of the countries with a historically low immigration rate into the United States, and neither of your parents are legal residents or born during the time of your birth. Then you can claim the country of birth of either of your parents if they are eligible for the DV-2025 (green card)
Education or Work experience: Applicants can meet the education or work experience requirements by possessing at least one of the following:
- A high school education or its equivalent. proof of well-defined completion of a 12-year programme of formal elementary and secondary education. Or,
- At least, two years of work experience within the past five (5) in an occupation that requires at least two (2) of training or experience.
- Make sure you provide either of these requirements before you submit your entry.
Note: The Department of State will determine the qualifying work experience of the applicant using the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*Net Online database.
When to Apply

Application Starting Date
The green card lottery application will commence on Wednesday 4th October 2023 at precisely 12:00 pm (noon). It’s important to note that no late entries will be accepted. Moreover, anyone who enters multiple entries will be detected by the US Department of State’s sophisticated technology.
Application Closing Date
It is important to note that the US green card lottery application will end on Tuesday 7th November, 2023. Do not wait till the last days of entry before you register to avoid delay as a result of heavy traffic on the website.
